what is the setting agent in this lime pudding cup - aside from boiling out some of the moisture - what causes it to thicken (is it the lime juice that does it?)

The recipe calls for 2 CUPS heavy cream. And then advises to reduce the liquid to 2 CUPS over med. heat for 8-10mins. Then add lime juice. Did I miss something?
