President Donald Trump has a long history of racial demagoguery, and Wednesday night was no exception. At a campaign rally in Greenville, North Carolina, the president allowed his riled-up crowd to chant "Send her back" about Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali refugee who became a U.S. citizen. In response to the offensive rally chants, Omar tweeted a Maya Angelou quote: "You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise." She also wrote on Twitter, "I am where I belong, at the people's house and you're just gonna have to deal!" Link in bio for full story.

f.h.mith I am not where I belong! I can feel the riffle from Trump but what I fail to understand why people are taking it as an insult! Unlike the President, I have a profound culture and land to get back to! The kind of PR captured over this supposedly insult “Go Back” could be great both for me and my country!! I could become a President if I go back to my people reform change itself and be a pioneer!! What I don’t understand is that why anyone would waste their energy on retaliating the white trash when there is so much that could done back at home!! “Go Back” will always be an opportunity for me, just saying!!

If they channel these contributions to build up their own country it could be a country of living the American nightmare!! I will chose my country over 1000 Americas any day. Trust me people of my country actually do that! They work for NASA Smithsonian for 25 30 years but they do come back when they retire and start working again making our country gr8!!

meredeth.kelly @_abbygrossman Big no. Tell yourself whatever you need to, but the sentiments of his words are rooted in racism. It is a dark underbelly that plagues this country and has for centuries. Three of the four congresswomen that Trump attacked were born here, the fourth, a naturalized citizen. To tell them to go “back to where they came from” is 100% racist white nativism. Dissent and criticism in a democracy is highly patriotic and essential— it does not make you a radical leftist “hater”.

_abbygrossman Unless the meaning of the word “racist” has changed, there’s nothing racist in the words “send her back”. When people complain about the city/state I live in, I tell them they should move if the don’t like it (& take their negativity w/ them). Liberals just want to make an issue out of everything Trump says; its so tiresome. Let the guy run the country, he’s actually doing a pretty good job, even though Dems/liberals/haters won’t admit it.
