Likening her studio to ‘an orchestra’, Colombian visual artist Olga de Amaral utilises indigenous weaving traditions and Spanish Baroque architecture to recall the lush landscapes of her native home.

Interweaving art and craft, de Amaral gained recognition following her inclusion in @ニューヨーク近代美術館 monumental exhibition, ‘Wall Hangings’ in 1969 which saw, for the very first time, works by fibre artists displayed in the art section that up until then was reserved only for painting or sculpture.

De Amaral’s monumental and playful works are currently on view as part of
@sothebys_s2_london summer show titled ‘Where Were You at Night’, on view until September 19.
