スミソニアン博物館さんのインスタグラム写真 - (スミソニアン博物館Instagram)「The #Apollo11 mission patch was designed with the knowledge that it would be everywhere: on spacesuits, flight suits, recovery suits, and jackets, but also on souvenirs, newspapers and promotional materials (and now @airandspacemuseum Instagram takeovers!). Mission crews historically designed their own emblems, and when it came time to work on theirs, the Apollo 11 astronauts decided against including their names, as previous missions had done. They wanted the design to be representative of the hundreds of thousands of people who worked on the program. This is the final result, designed by command module pilot Michael Collins. It features an American bald eagle (the national bird and a reference to lunar module Eagle) with an olive branch (the symbol for peace) in its talons. And the mission number was written in numerals (11) instead of spelled out (eleven), so people from non-English-speaking countries could understand it more easily. The mission patch pictured is on Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit, which we just put back on display. 👨‍🚀 #Apollo50 #Apollo11at50 #IdeasThatDefy」7月20日 6時04分 - smithsonian
