Even so, as with so many animal species in the polar regions, climate scientists and marine biologists alike are concerned about the effects climate change and more unpredictable shifts in weather patterns might have on future populations. Current estimates place the overall king penguin population at 2 million breeding pairs, which seems stable in the short term. That doesn’t guarantee a viable, stable future, though.
