Morning all 💛 My ‘baby’ boy Tino is 15 today and it’s been an interesting road. He has autism and for most children birthdays are the best day but for him it’s completely overwhelming. For those with autistic children you know what I’m saying. Opening cards can be stressful. Tino hates praise, so reading them is frustrating and if he gets a present he doesn’t like there might be tears. I’ve learnt to stick only to the list and not ‘surprise’ him with anything. Anyway he, along with his brother are the lights of my life and I am so proud of them. My Tino changed my life for the better. He gave me a new perspective and courage I didn’t know I had and I will always be grateful to him ....... and he would hate me saying that! 😊💫🙏🏻 #happysunday #birthdayboy #autism

carinaismumandsome That’s lovely. I think there’s so much pressure to do what you’re ‘supposed’ to do on a birthday, when why? Do what makes the birthday person happiest. My son has no diagnosis right now, but is going through the process (the LONG process). Only this year on his 5th birthday have we been able to sing happy birthday (with his blessing and request) without a catastrophic breakdown. And he still won’t accept that he’s 5. We negotiated and he’s 4+, we won’t accept 5 just yet, because he ‘doesn’t like that number’. Do whatever makes their birthday good for them and cherish it ❤️ xx

gillygilly22 My Grandson was 4yrs old on Thursday and it was the first time he looked at his birthday card from me, tried to touch the candles on his cake and jumped on the trampoline i got him ? In the past he has ignored the people and their gifts, got upset and frustrated on his birthday and Christmas. He starts school in September which is a challenge for any child but hopefully it will lead to new and exciting things ?

tightsmonster Happy birthday to your Son and well done to you Melanie, my late Mum said that any Mum who has a child with any needs, physical, mental or emotional gives you a strength that you never new you had. She said she learned so much during my childhood and all that went with my Cerebral Palsy and developed a steel she didn't know she had. Have a good day ❤️

mrscara30 Aww happy birthday Tino! I have 4 children with autism, adhd or both. Birthdays for my oldest 2 we have to keep pretty much like a normal day as they don’t cope well. My daughter is fine on her own birthday but doesn’t cope well on anyone else’s. Hope you all manage to have a lovely day! Autism style! ???
