A waning gibbous Moon was pictured July 20 from the International Space Station on the 50th anniversary of NASA landing humans on the lunar surface for the first time. Three new Expedition 60 Flight Engineers, Drew Morgan of NASA, Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency and Alexander Skvortsov of Roscosmos, were about to launch to the orbiting laboratory on this historic day. #moon #apollo50th #nasa #international #space #station #esa #roscosmos #csa #jaxa

@yocindyb In point of fact, the Moon is in synchronous rotation, it orbits the Earth once every 27.322 days, it also takes approximately 27 days for the moon to rotate once on its axis, as a result, the moon does not seem to be spinning but appears to observers from Earth to be keeping almost perfectly still. This is referred to as "tidally locked", when an orbiting astronomical body always has the same face toward the object it is orbiting. I hope that this helps.

@yocindyb It must be that these people seriously failed in the education system at everything and that's why they can't comprehend anything to do with astronomy, mathematics etc and are angry and frustrated so they get sucked in to cults that fabricate the nonsense that only the most gullible would believe which somehow makes them feel special thinking they know something the rest of the world doesn't. Sad times.

@frankieunderwood16 As I understand it, the first photograph of the moon was taken by John W. Draper on Thursday March 26th, 1840. The photograph was a Daguerreotype (the first commercially successful photographic process that utilized a silvered copper plate), Draper took from his rooftop observatory at New York University. I hope that this helps.

@ruhansahbazov As I understand it, when it comes to launching rockets, it is not height above sea level that is important, rather latitude. The closer to the equator you can get, the greater the speed boost you receive. This reduces the amount of energy required to get into space and means that less fuel is required. I hope that this helps.

@_ankeet98 It is my understanding that the lander and rover of Chandrayaan-2, are scheduled to touch down on September 6th 2019 (September 7th local time in mission control). Hopefully it will be successful, after a 7 week journey. If so, then India will become the fourth nation to achieve a soft landing on the Moon.???
