After hiking around the many other waterfalls Hamilton, Ontario had to offer we found ourselves at the last scheduled waterfall for the day. We were way off the regular path as none of us were willing to settle for the dull, one angle view provided by the small viewing platform near the top of the falls. We had to be right in the middle of the action, and so we made our descent. The path had clearly been used by a select few others with the same idea in mind, yet it was anything but clear cut. Our boots were caked in enough mud to make every uneasy step feel as though the ground would slip out from underneath us at a moments notice. After clambering down rocks with heavy bags swaying around on our backs, testing how good we all believed our balance to be, we found ourselves staring at the final drop. To our left were a set of fringed ropes left by another curious group and to our right, a 70° slope leading down to the base of the 135 ft waterfall. After some talk on the strength and reliability of the ropes we each swung ourselves over the edge and one by one, made our descent. Our hands were red from gripping the rope, trusting it with far more than we should have. As we all splashed down at the bottom of the river and looked up at the final streaks of light shining on the falls, all any of us could do was smile. Standing in the river, I don’t think I had ever been happier to have my feet soaking wet than I did then. I ran further upstream and set my camera tripod right into the flow of water barreling towards us. This is what we saw.」7月24日 23時45分
