This #FeaturedTeacherFriday 📚we are headed to Texas! Lanie’s attitude of compassion & inclusivity is amazing. Here’s her story: “I was born and raised in Austin, Texas! I have been teaching 4th grade for 5 years and I love every minute of it! My students are my world! They are loving, caring, compassionate, inquisitive, and sometimes hyper! As a class, we build a community so we can rely on one another. We build trust with restorative circles and hold each other accountable for our actions!
I work with a very diverse population and most students come from low-income families. The schools I’ve worked at are Title 1 schools, meaning that they receive federally funded support. For some of my students, school is the only place they will receive a meal and have as a safe space with someone to trust. Throughout the year I personally purchase my students supplies, backpacks, coats, clothes, books and snacks.
While my students are my family, I’m also very proud of the family my wife and I have built. I am out to my students and their parents, and while it’s been challenging at times, it’s worth it. It’s important to me that students have reassurance that it’s okay to be ‘different.’ This year I had a student tell me they were scared of life and who they were until they found out I was a lesbian. She said I made her realize that she wasn’t weird and that something wasn’t wrong with her. She said that reassurance saved her life. If I can save one child’s life, that’s enough for me.
This next year I will be starting a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) at Howard Norman Elementary in Hutto, TX for any and all that would like to join! I want to make sure students have a safe place to go to. All kids need to learn about acceptance, empathy, kindness. With the GSA and in my classroom, all of these things will be taught! Thank you for any and all help!” Lanie’s wishlist will be in my bio. Oh, and I love you guys. 💗💪🏻🧠📚

I'm a high school math teacher and robotics coach at a title 1 school. A lot of my students come to school without food in their stomachs and supplies in their bags. Heck, some don't even have bookbags! I decided to coach the robotics team here to help students learn more about STEM related careers and earn scholarships to help with the financial toll that comes with college. Most of our building does not have air conditioning, but all the teachers at BBCHS try to make it work in the 90 degree classrooms. Every bit helps us teachers. Thank you for all that you do here! All of us really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for what you do! I have been blessed to have had my amazon wishlist fully purchased today and I would like to nominate a friend of mine, Kristzina. She is an AMAZING teacher who always fights for her kids. We teach in a Title one school in which we have 15% refugee students as well as most on poverty. She is our English language learner teacher in 6th grade and has been for two years, prior to that she was the fourth and fifth grade ELL teacher. Her amazon wishlist is :

Congrats to these teachers for being featured 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 and thank you Kristen💕 I sent you a message about my kiddos! I’m a brand new special education teacher at a Title I school. Most of our students just came to America and we are disadvantaged socioeconomically. If you see this please choose us for your next feature! Posting from outside Washington, D.C. 💕

This is really awesome. My cousin/sons godmother @kristibates4 is truly the most amazing teacher I know. She genuinely wants to make a difference in her students lives and loves them like her own children. She is really making a difference in the world through her passion of teaching. She teaches 5th grade math in East Texas and she really is the best! ❤️
