A distinguishing feature of the reticulated giraffe is its coat: brown-orange patches clearly defined by a network of thick and striking white lines.
Giraffes, unfortunately, are in trouble. Giraffe populations have dropped have dropped 30 percent in three decades, plummeting from approximately 155,000 in the late 1980s to about 110,000 today. Reticulated giraffe number fewer than 16,000. The decline is thought to be caused by habitat loss and fragmentation and poaching, but with the lack of long-term conservation efforts in the past, it's hard to know exactly.
