@507to407, it is true that some of us prefer to live in decent neighborhoods with specific standards of living, but that sentence about ratchetness is loaded with implicit biases which stems from racism. You may not have that idea that everyone in a given ethnic group may be a certain way, but stereotypes tend to gain momentum in echo chambers before they escape. Racism is not something I was looking for, it is something I was exposed to. An old White women telling my mom to get that monkey away from me is a thought that a child cannot conceive on their own. A group of Italians telling my father that he is not Black because he is from Jamaica is a notion that I could not make up on my own. My childhood friend telling her 2nd grade classmates that her father doesn’t like Black people is not something that I was looking for. The point is the fact that our experiences help shape our perceptions. I have friends who are of different ethnicities and I can tell the difference between an open minded person and one who fosters implicit biases. The original post which started this dialogue is not about racism, it’s about not allowing U.S. authorities to commit unjust actions without being challenged or reprimanded. It just so happens that some of those in power harbor implicit biases which clouds their judgement in taking the appropriate course of actions without infringing upon the the rights of U.S. citizens. Ratchetness or no ratchetness, those who take an oath to uphold the law should be held accountable by those who give them the legitimate authority to do so.

It kills me that people kneel to the National Anthem and the raising of the flag and justify it as awareness to black oppression. But seem to forget the first African American Medal of Honor recipient (William Harvey Carney who was born a slave) risked his life in the Civil War, when the Flag Bearer was shot, to keep the flag from touching the ground. To some people, that flag means hope for a better tomorrow, that flag means that we’re not perfect but we do what we can. I grew up doing nothing but loving this country and wanting to serve in the military. Now I’m older and I see the problems cause there are problems. But this isn’t the answer. Your country didn’t betray you, a few people in it did. When I joined my Drill Sergeant told me “ there is one race and that is green and there is one sex and that is soldier.” When you become a service member you learn there is only two types of people you fight for, those you fight along side and those you protect. Do what you will but taking a knee always means you lost or you can’t keep going. If that’s how you want to be viewed be my guest. But when life comes to knock me down and try to take me out I’ll be on both feet standing. Because that the American Way.

Betsy Ross wasn't racist or a slave owner, IN FACT she was against it. She created the first American flag and just because slavery was happening during that time the flag was made that most definitely doesn't make it racist at all. It's like saying someone is racist because their ancestor was a slave owner. Point is, saying that those shoes were "racist" is absolutely ignorant and disgusting. You deserve to not be playing for kneeling at our flag. Don't play for our country and move away if it's so "corrupted", because news flash; no one is forcing you to stay. Oh by the way, before someone pulls the race card on me, I don't care if you're black, white, red, blue or rainbow. We're all the same on the inside, and just because someone disagrees with you and they happen to be white that makes someone racist. This is what brings America down, not so called "racism".

@ohjayyy3 your slaves here? To who? Black people can hold any job and go to any school that white people can... No one holds anyone back besides themselves... Theres millions of white trailer trash that have it worse than all the black folks in the ghetto... My uncle is a chemical engineer and make 175k a year, one of the smartest people i know... And he is black... My cousin is also black and is in the army rangers... And you never hear either of them bitch about racism, neither of them kneel when the flag flies, and neither of them blame white people for how successful they are... Stop blaming people because your lazy and dont want to work for anything... And stop voting democrat when they are the ones trying to keep you poor

You really realize how many racist people there are when you look at this man’s comment sections I’ve seen plenty of white people and people of every other ethnic background not even bother to stand for the pledge of allegiance but bc he used his platform to stand up for something he knew was an issue in this country he caught the attention of every racist individual residing in this country I know men and women in the military who stand with him white, black, Asian, and everything else you have to be racist to have any kind of resentment toward him point blank

I am a caucasian man. I am making this statement, not because I "know what it's like to have suffered all or the injustices the African American community has endured", but because I have 100% empathy and understanding of all you have endured, and I agree with you and your views, period. My Hope's and prayers are for ALL people to be treated equally, and for the African American population, public recognition and reimbursements for past injustices be paid. THAT is why I stand with #7- and all others who stand along with him. God Bless🙏
