30 years old, countless hours, days, weeks, years played. Nintendo’s #GameBoy was released in North America three decades ago today! Thank you for so much for all the pocket-sized fun.

apsculpturestudio I was 13 at the time. My parents wouldn’t buy me one, but I saved $80 from doing work for my dad and rode my bike and bought it at a K.B. Toys in the Santa Anita mall in Arcadia, Ca. Then my younger brother complained that he didn’t have one to play with and since I purchased my own I wasn’t about to share with him, so my parents just bought him one and told me I had to share my games with him because they wouldn’t buy two of each game. 😠

chicagoretrogamer It was an amazing feeling to be able to have the freedom to play the Game Boy games anywhere, even outside of the home while traveling, in the park or even on the porch during nice weather. And the games were amazing. I can't even tell you how many times I completed SML 2, Kirby's Dream Land, Mortal Kombat, or Link's Awakening, and I somehow never got bored or lost any of that excitement.

edmarnyc I had one. I also had the Atari Lynx, a handheld gaming device that came out around the same time. Thing is, the Lynx was a better product: better (color!) graphics, backlit screen (Gameboy needed to be played in well-lit conditions), and even a left-handed function. It was just better, but Gameboy beat it. I guess Gameboy had a better selection of games, but still...

laurenkh279 The earphones that came with GameBoy were the best ones ever made. Years of use and accidental runs in the washer and dryer and they still worked! 🙌💜 lasted for about 4 years. That quality is forever gone

johnpatrickmcp Still have an old grey Brickboy. Bought it at a yard sale for $10. Took me right back to those magical days when I was 10yo and I had my original Game boy.

babyzerochica My GameBoy has corrosion from batteries for so many years. I took some Lemon Juice to that corrosion and it fixed it!😃
