Sen. Kamala Harris' campaign released a health care plan this week, and it backs a version of "Medicare for All." "The bottom line is this: We must agree that access to health care must be a right and not just a privilege of those who can afford it," she said during the second night of CNN's #DemDebate in Detroit. Harris and former Vice President Joe Biden began the debate by sparring over health care, with Biden criticizing her plan, saying, "Obamacare is working."

I am no expert on this subject, but have used both employer based and state subsidized plans and for those not enjoying a great corporate (private plan), like I have for most of my life...the cost is crazy. Family of four, decent coverage with pretty high deductibles is $24k+ a year. I have been pretty fortunate, but as a number for the average family to support without help....I personally think this is far too high. When I was between jobs, my State had a subsidized plan that ultimately ended up being a normal HMO....run by a private company, but the State had negotiated better rates and tax dollars were subsidizing my premiums. All one has to do is look at an itemized bill to see the ridiculous rates being charged by institutions for basic visits and the cost of drugs is completely out of whack with the rest of the world. While I don’t believe the government is able to run anything efficiently, I would support regulation of the healthcare industry, if nothing else, to negotiate better rates across a broader number of people. By the way, what happened to Trump’s promise to drive down rates by increasing insurance competition across state lines? Did this happen with no effect....or are we back to same old Washington where both Dems and Repubs make all kinds of stump speeches but once elected, they both jump in bed with lobbyists to protect the sacred cow of healthcare profit? I am a capitalist, so I am always leery of government intervention, but if the government can regulate carriers (phone companies/Internet), etc to place caps on margins to ensure universal availability.....why can’t something similar be done with health insurance. Yes, I know there are problems with segments of this....but it looks like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, etc manage to make large profits, while keeping up with technology improvements. In short, I don’t want Washington making healthcare choices for my family, but I am in favor of listening to an approach that leverages them to help control costs.

The reality is that healthcare in this country is expensive and if you want it for all then we all will have to pay more. It not only will come from the tax payers, but also, it will get increased since it will be subsidized and hospitals will take that opportunity to inflate prices even more. If that doesn't happen then quality will drop, and sure everyone will get health care but you are going to want to pay for a better service. The whole system would have to change. Doctors, PAs and nurses won't want to earn less. This is very complex and what works in one country doesn't mean works everywhere.

I'm from Germany. Why would anyone Not want a health care plan? Its just unbelievable how much a trip to the hospital costs in the US and not everybody was lucky and born into a familiy that can afford such things. Also it just improves your life standards so much, you can always see a doctor if you want. Even if you "only" got a cold or acne or something like that. It's nice not to worry that much and also much safer, given the fact that the most issues only get dangerous if you see the doctor too late, making you unable to work perhaps, which then makes it even more unaffordable to get treatment

It’s a horrible idea. Who is paying for it? Dems need to stop leaning so far to the left and meet more in the middle if you ever plan on beating Trump. Middle and upper class are not interested in hearing that their incomes are going to be taxed more. We are not interested in paying the bills for everything. We also can’t stomach having the orange man in office for another second. So please stop with the Medicare for all and the rest of the left wing crap. It is not going to get you elected.

I really considered voting for Kamala Harris until she and other female senator both last night tried the same while Vice President Joe Biden was sandwiched in between them, to try to lift yourself up by not telling accurate facts about Joe Biden ,it was a completely different time you failed to inform everyone of that so you just lost my vote , don't ever try to rewrite history to try to make yourself look better
