I didnt know where to start my shopping spree. I remember buying silly putty and a whoopie cushion which we used on grandpa later that night. I wanted to get our nails painted so we did together and you agreed to match me. We walked out with hot pink nails and white painted on stars. For a farmers wife was quite the talk of the town! Afterward we stopped and had soup, pie and coffee... mine was all half and half with only a splash of coffee. I felt so grown up sitting in a booth at the window with you. I can close my eyes and see us there. You were in a lavender shirt and said “now you’re 9 and feeling fine!” You giggled at your corny saying! You made me feel so special. Celebrating others and making them feel loved was what you did best. So today is your Birthday.... all I want is to pick up the phone and sing to you! But in your absence I decided to sit with my memories and celebrate you. This way you feel alive. You had a life lived authentically for others. Focused always on your family and those in need. You always went where you were called and could serve. Your life changed the world around you for the better. You changed me for the better. I hold onto these parts of you and let them inspire me as each day passes. There is an emptiness without you here but my gratitude for your 79 years beats on.
