I find myself pacing around the house, looking for things to fix and rooms to clean and projects to start. Our property wall needs a fresh layer of paint, and the front yard could really use some fresh gravel. Lea’s closet is a mess and the guest bathroom has a pipe that needs fixing. Im pretty sure the storage shed has termites and I know the laundry room is absolute chaos and the fridge is somehow completely empty of actual food but I can barely close the door because it’s overflowing with so much stuff. Who need three half empty jars of pickles?? And five kinds of mustard? What is this? I go from room to room making lists in my head; after I’ve cleaned that I need to fix that, and then go buy that one thing for that other thing to work... I go round and round like a little energizer bunny until it finally dawns on me: I am off. Off! It’s the weekend! Regular people have weekends. Off days. Time to relax. Unwind. Do nothing. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So I pick up a crime novel I’ve been eyeing and put on a bathing suit and lay down in my hammock and I make myself lie still until finally, my mind catches up with what my body has been craving for far too long: rest. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The book is great. The beach is great, too. Lea Luna is singing the Moana song and Dennis is baking(??) and we have beautiful friends and the ocean is so unbelievably blue and slowing down is a skill that requires practice.
