Shoes are piled outside the scene of a mass shooting that occurred on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. The loss of at least 29 lives in El Paso and Dayton in less than 24 hours is just the latest additions to an ever-increasing national death toll. Since the Columbine shooting in 1999, there have been many U.S. massacres that have claimed dozens of victims. Mass shootings have become such a common occurrence, they have transformed American life — turning places that were once thought safe into areas where people now arrive worried about worst-case scenarios. yami_yuugi I found out about this shooting by a friend. He told the group chat about a shooting that only happened a few miles from him. And at that moment I realized I was that close to losing someone. I got the same pit in my stomach the same day we had a shooting in a mall near us, my sister almost had a shift there that day. Now I live in fear everyday, not just for myself, but for my friends, my family. I'm a teenager, I should be worrying about how my clothes look or about a date for prom. Not about being shot at pride, or losing a friend when they go shopping. And no, more guns don't make me feel safer. There is only one way more guns would make a situation better, but almost hundreds that would make it worse. You don't throw wood into a fire to make it stop. I can't even look at what my friends are doing through instagram without feeling sick to my stomach over another shooting. Go ahead and harass me and tell me I'm wrong or stupid. Just know you're bullying a teenager who wakes up everyday wondering if this is the day I'm going to be shot. Just know you're bullying a demographic that sees people as old as them, that sees friends and family fall dead to another shooter.

ahumado Guns are everywhere in the world, not just the U.S.A., but Americans seem to enjoy killing each other. 10-12,000 black people kill each other year in and year out. They love the killing. American society is sick, you’re like a gigantic pack of dogs tearing each other to pieces. Your media and politicians actually have the nerve to blame something as stupid as video games for this. It’s you, the American citizen that’s the problem. You keep electing the same animals to office for decades even though you know they are evil, corrupt pieces of human garbage. You then wonder why your society is such a cesspool. You’re the problem. YOU.

thomas_bown Looking at the NRA insta page, it’s a weird logic they peddle that it’s safer if everyone has guns. A society based on a standoff like that scene in Reservoir Dogs when everyone is pointing guns at each other. Sounds like a very volatile situation. It’s quite nice here in Europe knowing there’s no guns for miles around apart from on the odd farm. Makes it very difficult to get shot. Btw... Spoiler alert but in the end of that movie scene, everyone gets shot.
