This is an image taken today in Galveston Texas in the year 2019 of a black man who was trespassing. I usually don’t post things like this because I feel that social media can be used to keep us in a constant state of confrontation with one another, and if we are always fighting then we will never heal. But today I post this as a way to remind myself and others that I can not turn a blind eye to the world i actually live in. This is not the 1800’s America. This is America now and this is 2019. Turning a blind eye won’t change what’s happening. Only WE can change what’s happening by continuing to grow and continuing to push ourselves to be better and do better #galveston

It was quite personal for me b/c my great grandmother is from Galveston. She and her brothers lived through the horrid times of slavery in Galveston, Texas. I live in Houston and was immediately overwhelmed with anger, frustration and sadness. 😢

@brianstevenbanks I know a lot of white Americans who are just as angry and mortified by this image as we are. I think it’s important for ALL AMERICANS no matter what color they are to bond together and reject this kind of behavior.

@chenita06 I think a lot of people besides us feel that way and it gives me hope and solace knowing there are more people out there who are disgusted by this image than there are people who identify with it. ❤️🙏🏽

@hollywud24 I feel your pain! There are so many people who feel the same way and the sheer numbers of people who will not stand by and allow for this to be America will ultimately lead to change.

😯😡😢 I love the United States for many reasons, but sometimes I cannot understand what's happening there! Hi from Switzerland! 👋 🇨🇭

@vanessalchester I wish it wasn’t real also, but now that we realize it is, we all have to do everything we can to bring about change.
