↔️Toni Morrison changed my life. Inflated it.
Again and again and again and again. I still remember the chills, my jaw going slack as my head jerked up, eyes out the bus window reflecting- wrestling with the contents of what the hell i just read. The defiant power of these people and concepts she was gifting us.
My first reading of Song of Solomon in high school blew my mind and followed me everywhere, literally. I carried it w me as one does a Koran or Bible, or Malcolm X Speaks. A survival guide of artful wisdoms. Always artful. Always wisdoms. I reread and re-examined it so often it fell apart. So i bought another and encased my ground zero in assorted plastics. As if preserving it and myself were one and the same.
The Bluest Eye was central to my high school English dept entry curriculum. Beloved caused me to create our own African American Literature course.
Toni Morrison taught us to sit into ourselves and power, not as overcompensation or cliché, but simply because it’s true.

reynanicole Only person in my class who chose The Bluest Eye for my Senior Seminar class. Having never heard of it beforehand, I just chose it because of my own personal glorification of colored eyes. I had no idea how much the book would end up meaning to me. So grateful for Toni and her work’s impact on me & society as a whole 💕

abageneajourney I read one of her books every Summer. Song of Soloman was on my June Summer list. I met Ms. Morrison once at Roosevelt University in Chicago. My professor had received her PhD under Ms Morrison's guidance and surprised us with an introduction. The experience inspired me to write.

panayota_boo I'm at awe! That is some of the thoughts I've been having regarding the human race in general. If you need someone else to be lower so that you feel better about yourself then you have serious problems! Thanks for that. I'll look for her book.
