In the past few weeks I have been hearing from literally hundreds of school teachers located all over the country, who are trying to buy supplies for their classrooms. Don’t get me started on why they simply don’t have the funds available from the authorities to take care and educate our children... the lists are mostly shopping lists for bare essentials on Amazon, things like pencils, paper, books and even chairs... please scour social media on any platform and look for the hashtag #clearthelists to find a teacher who you can support. Every penny helps, you simply buy what you can from their list and it ships to their classroom. Here’s an example of a DM I received from a teacher - “I’m a preschool teacher in Petoskey, Michigan. All we want as teachers is for our children/students to have the best. The best school year, to be healthy, supported and cared for. We know that many families face financial burdens themselves and we as teachers will always provide for our students, even if that means we go without, and or cut into our own personal budgets. We are in this profession because we know the value of a good education, and that all children deserve the right to have one. The most rewarding jobs and experiences in our lives are the ones that we somedays face the most adversity with, because we know in the end that we have made a difference in this world, with the children we have had and whom we will always consider “our kids”! It's true. Many teachers by the supplies that their districts budget cannot afford. It's spread thin & some districts aren't budgeting properly. Those teachers who reached out are amazing. Those are the ones that ensure each student is taught, guided & well kept. Cheers to 2019-2020 School Year! It's going to be better this year! I'm a school 🚌 driver (14th year). @nigelbarker I agree with you 100%. Teachers are struggling to make sure they have what they need to teach our children. I know a teacher who buys paper, pencils etc to make sure her student s have what they need. It’s sad that we live in a world that finds money for war but ration out funds for education among other things. Teachers are under valued and deserve far more than what they are given. Teachers help create the future.... @nigelbarker this post was much needed and made my day.

@nigelbarker I don’t think that we, as teachers, can thank you enough for bringing light to this sad fact. My school district gives me only $25 to supply my classroom each year and therefore, I end up spending anywhere from $300-500 on my own supplies, while trying to support a family of 5. We appreciate you using your public platform to help ease the burden! 🍎

Yes! 4th grade teacher here. I work at a title one school where many kids come in without supplies. I then buy supplies because the school doesn’t or can’t provide them. I’m a teacher in the UK and it’s the same here. I often purchase items for teaching methods to make it interesting and creative. Budgets are slashed and we are still expected to get the same (if not better) outcome with less supplies or access to resources (even harder with the recent A Level and GCSE reform)

Thank you for doing this! I’m a high school Special Education teacher, and cannot tell you how much this is appreciated! My district makes student/teacher supplies a priority, but I know there are many districts that simply can’t! I’ve been a fan of yours forever, but this...Thank you so much!!!
