The reality of living with panic attacks can slowly change. Panic breeds panic. Mind over matter and never be ashamed. Thank you @mattzhaig. So many suffer yet we still live in a world where this is not shared enough. This why the @shoeboxproject means so much to me. Living with mental illness is not a choice and can lead to debilitating circumstances. Please follow our charity to understand the struggles some of these women face everyday in shelters.

37 years ago I had my first panic attack and at one point it became crippling. I thought I was crazy and went to Drs to to figure it out. Finally a dr came back into the room with a small paper bag and told me I was having panic attack’s and to breath in and out of the bag slowly. I went to see a psychiatrist and he put me on medication to help me through the impossibly difficult time. I felt alone and crazy. No one ever discussed it and I kept it a secret from everyone even my husband as much as I could. The good news that it can stop and never return. It takes time, patience with yourself and controlling those thoughts that take you down that road. I have not been on medication in many years and stopped walking around with it just in case. The idea that women and men are out there supporting each other is wonderful. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and if you need to take medication do it! Don’t be ashamed do whatever it takes to live your best life.

Thank you for sharing the rawness of mental illness I've suffered with panic attacks and anxiety for over 20 years to the point where I haven't been able to leave the house haven't been able to keep a steady job and it has definitely trickled into every part of my life but each day I wake up and I fight the battle and two lots and lots of self-care and I don't hide anymore now I am very transparent about it to anyone and everyone I meet because you just never know who's fighting that battle as well. The more we talk about it the more it gets out there and shared the more that people will realize that they are not alone may find some comfort in knowing that..❤️🙏

Thank you for this post @jessicamulroney - I recently had one, brought on by being verbally attacked for my sexual orientation in a public establishment in Northern British Columbia. You're certainly right, panic breeds panic. It's through this kind of advocacy that we can TOGETHER move our minds to happier places, more respectful places where we can shine love and equality out there for ALL mankind... slowly alleviating our external stress that we manifest... eventually getting thr best of us. Thanks for this post and all the love and light you're shining around this topic. 💛🙏🌼

@myfarelady68 I agree.. if you have never had them you do not know... there are people who think wow.. get a grip, look what you are doing to your kids, when you easily get upset, or when you stop yourself from doing family things... or how it is for them when they see you this way! Do you think I like feeling those things especially around my kids... 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ again unless you have it you do not know what it is.

My now 16 year old started having panic attacks at 10 years old. None of us knew what they were but they scared us all. I immediately got him help and he’s still in therapy today. Luckily he is very open about his struggles and in turn many of his peers open up to him about their own anxiety which they hide from others. I hope someday it can be looked upon differently and the people that need help can get it.

Thank you for this, Jessica. The panic ABOUT the panic. Feeling fear just THINKING about having to go somewhere and not wanting to have a massive attack in public. So many people cannot fathom feeling fear or anxiety from a grocery store, Target, etc.- I have. It can be absolutely paralyzing to one’s emotional and psychological well- being. We must speak about this to help those around us. 🙏🏼
