safiyaqueen_1 I've been to this castle before. I lived in Accra, Ghana for 2 years. When I visited the castle it was free but now they charge you to visit. Going through the castle feels like an out of body experience. It was emotionally overwhelming. You can feel the spirits in every room. The reflection of how far we have come is crazy. Your body shifts through emotions.... two being sorrow for the souls that were lost in the castle and on the passage to it and rage for the treatment our people encountered. Just reflecting and looking at the pics above sends chills through my body.

theushgles Visiting here was one of the most profound moments of my life. That and Cape Coast Castle and the ball and chain for the female slave to be raped. The juxtaposition of the castles beauty and position with the horrors inside has never left me. The haunting and beautiful faces of children with ginger Afro hair and pale eyes in the surrounding villages who are the descendants of rape and genocide have never left left me either. Ghana is a place of immeasurable beauty and unspeakable history.

We played a huge part as a nation in this disgusting trade and the young must be taught of this and the devastating effects that it had on so many innocent peoples lives.
