Happy #nationalbreastfeedingweek Mamas, what an honor it is to stand with you, gently encouraging a powerful shift in the way breastfeeding is viewed, paving the way for a more supportive outlook on the importance of allowing mothers to nurture and nourish their little ones. Whether you breastfeed or formula feed, whether you’re pumping at work, nursing on your lunch break, or at home raising your family, you are doing the hardest job of all and you deserve support. We have to find an even more compassionate approach for Mamas who are doing their best to take care of their children, whatever their path may be. I remember standing in the middle of a set as a first time Director with Google for Andy’s Song, the pressure was on, and my daughter was 13 weeks old. Not an ideal time to be back on 17 hour days, but you don’t always get to choose when the work begins to flow. I didn’t even have time for a lunch break so naturally neither did she. I strapped on my double pump, tossed a jacket on and kept going. The next bathroom break I had, I would race to my on-set office, toss her on my boob while people came in and out with questions for the next shot. There was no time, so she came with me and I continued directing with a baby tucked in happily nursing away. Everyone did their best to make me feel comfortable and safe, and I am incredibly thankful for that experience, one of my first being out and about in the workplace with my baby. I am so grateful to be on this journey at a time where this global conversation is on the rise, with less shame and more love, but I know there is still a long way to go. Let’s keep the conversations going, continue sharing stories and lifting each other up, until we no longer have to have hashtags that highlight what should simply be the norm. 💕Ps I chose this photo for social media only because as open as we are about breastfeeding, we still keep our family life private on social. Sometimes we cover for shade or if it feels right for us, but I believe women should be able to nurse however it works for them #doyou #fedisbest #nationalbreastfeedingweek

_copperboom @lauraberacasa what works for every baby is having a happy and healthy parent. If it’s not working for the mother, it’s not working for the baby. My lack of success despite several LCs/supplements/round the clock pumping/etc is what pushed me into deep and dangerous PPD and PPA. Breastmilk is an ideal food source for most babies, yes... but breastfeeding isn’t always what’s best for baby. In my case, having a competent and healthy mother who fed her child formula was what was best for my baby. By formula feeding I was able to leave the state of resentment I was in, start medicinal therapy (that wasn’t BF friendly), and be the best parent for my child. Don’t oversimplify something so complicated.

vintagepolkadots @nikkireed thank you for putting this in a way that doesn’t make any mother feel like they aren’t doing it right ❤️🙌🏻 I wanted to breastfeed both my babies, but my milk never came in and I had to formula feed. I received a lot of negative comments from people about how breast is best which made me feel inadequate as a mother. I feel that you don’t always know why a mother is on a certain journey with their child, but no one should have the right to make them feel bad about their journey just because they would do it differently. Anyway thank you for always making every mother feel accepted no matter what their journey is 😘

mays_life94 A beautiful story! I remember when my niece was still being breastfed... my sister and her husband had the in-laws over and they went out for dinner when my niece wanted hers. So my sister fed her while eating herself... just she wasn‘t comfortable... there was an old man just OGLING her as she fed my niece. My sister asked her in-laws, both tall and quite wide people to scoot together so she could breastfeed in peace and the old man turned away. This is the most prominant/prominent (?) story of my family I know .... so i say Thank you for sharing your Story and keep up your amazing mumwork! ❤️

_copperboom @iansgirlforever how is this “well said”? It was an aggressive and entitled comment, that is also invasive and bordering on alarming. None of you are owed anything. What she chooses to share, and when, is up to her own discretion. It’s a bit off-putting that you feel that she be obligated to plaster her child all over social media for you to gawk at. Her celebrity status is irrelevant, and her child is not a celebrity. This is so odd...

lucykinski Don’t forget us mommas of kids that are tube fed or IV fed 👍🏻 I found it so hard when the doctors told me that my daughters bowel could not tolerate milk and was nil by mouth, my dream has been to breastfeed for an extended time. I have now come to terms with it and even though it is not something I will ever do, I passionately believe that breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world and shouldn’t be hidden away x

amberdaly04 I just wonna say thanks, when young lady's like me get older and decide to have children you have made it to we feel respected and comfortable when doing something so truly beautiful so natural, I know if it was any earlier in the years this photo would be shunned or disrespected but you have shown Young people that something so beautiful and right is ok to do in public, thank you 💕and have a beautiful day x
