In this @smithsonianarchives photo, Shanthi walks with her baby Kumari, who was born at @スミソニアン国立動物園 in 1993. Shanthi is an Asian elephant who was born in Sri Lanka, and was the first elephant to reproduce at the Zoo. At 6 months old, Kumari weighed 416 pounds.
