👻 On walks in the Thain Forest, you'd do well to keep your eyes peeled for these spooky plants. The ghost pipe (#Monotropauniflora) flowers in the shady understory, and contains no chlorophyll for photosynthesis, instead stealing its energy by parasitizing the mycorrhizal fungi that share nutrients with tree roots. You might even call them vampires. 🌲 #plantlove

A beautiful example of complex, interwoven relationships amongst species. Lichen do the same but live as one mass. And humans “grow” bacteria, fungi and viruses on and in our bodies. We can’t live without them.
Love this! I always thought they were a fungi too. 😊😊

I’ve seen these in my neighborhood!! Thank you so much for posting this. I thought they looked like plants that grew under a rock, and then the rock was removed. This is so interesting!!!👍🏼

@msmcgloinowitz cool!! I’m a horrible gardener though 😂 so wish I was better because my yard needs some life, or death 💀

@greenandblueecocareclub No, they're not harmful. Their methods are sneaky, but they're a natural part of the ecosystem.

I have them in my front yard here in eastern Long Island and I thought it was fungi as well, thanks for the info☺️

Saw these in the Hoh Forest in WA today, and we were fascinated. We mistook them for fungi.
