To all my friends and fans please watch our NEW episode link in bio THIS IS MY HEART Mahalo @CNN for helping me spread the awareness. There is a growing movement in Hawai’i that cuts to the core of native rights to protect sacred lands and ensure the continuation of cultural practices. Mauna Kea was selected for the construction of the massive Thirty Meter Telescope being imposed by the University of California and CalTech along with the countries of Canada, China, Japan, and India. Despite another suitable location beyond Hawai’i, the TMT project is pushing forward to build 18 stories high and bore several stories into the ground over the island’s natural water aquifers in a conservation district. Hawaiians and their supporters have taken a ceremonial peaceful stance in solidarity with people around the world, not as an opposition to science, but as protectors of their sacred and revered mountain.
Hawaiian people are truly children of the land, our history and language are infused in it. Our survival depends on what it can provide, and we look to our environment for spiritual guidance, it is part of our ancestral identity. To desecrate Mauna Kea is to do the same to the people. This is why we stand and say, “We are Mauna Kea!” Aloha J

Hawai’i has had its people desecrated over generations; it’s people killed by disease; it’s language almost taken away by those who made it illegal to speak it because of fear. When the most sacred is threatened, it is time to turn around and say: who would allow their most scared piece of land to be taken from them. Would the FRENCH allow Notre Dame to be bulldozed? Would the ITALIANS allow the Vatican to be overtaken in the name of scientific advancement? What about Australians building a telescope straight onto Uluru? Because that’s the only truest comparison; taking an indigenously sacred parcel of land and agreeing for it to be destroyed forever. Who has the rights to the land, of not those who for Millenia lived there in peace? We can learn more from Hawaiian traditions and customs and veneration of the land than we can from the building of this telescope on land that says no through the voices of its children. Are we willing to destroy a sacred site simply because it doesn’t have a thousand year old building on it to tell us it is sacred? When you venerate the land, you don’t need to build a monument to it; you simply need to feel a spiritual connection to the land. We are scientists at @realplanetp but above all, we are PLaNETARIANs . Aren’t we all here for the same thing -to thrive and survive in harmony with our environment and with utmost respect for those who paved the way? We are brief visitors here ; we have a right to respect the land and her people who are her guardians

Keep standing boldly, unshakeable, unmovable, and firm on what matters most. It saddens me to see the continued destruction of EVERYTHING sacred, natural, and untouched by corporate companies that play the hand of God. I am too sadden by the potential unnessary highway that the state of Mississippi intends to cut right through our African American private countryside land that has been in my family for for generations. This land has been bought with blood, sweat, and tears of my ancestors, and neither will I just "lay down" and not fight for the taking!!! I respect what you stand for. Much love Jason, your passion and the passion of the Hawaiian people ignites my soul!

Any person who tries to say anybody protesting this is “against science” are trying to control the narrative the best way to fight these unintelligent people is with common sense the beginning of this is the perfect example “we’re not against science we’re against this 18 story building” and people need to stop acting like if it wasn’t their home or their people or sacred land, religious or otherwise, that they wouldn’t do the same thing and be appalled in the same way. Our rights to protect this earth shouldn’t be situational @prideofgypsies

While I'm a little 50/50 on the superstitious overtones, I do appreciate the importance of holding on to positive cultural values and sacred heritage. Of all the cultures I have learned of in my few years on Earth, the Polynesian culture resonates with me the most, even though being an African, it has little to do with me historically. Much love and support, Jason. I'm a huge fan, you're a total badass with a big heart, and I wish you and your people the very best. Maikaʻi pōmaikaʻi! ❤️❤️❤️

Just the other day a meteor between 100 to 300 feet long/wide just missed Earth, we didn’t even know about it until it passed us. It was called a city destroyer. Telescopes in places nobody lives can be used for good too. There are 13 telescopes in 12 facilities on MK, 5 are going away and one (TMT) is going in for a net loss of 4 telescopes. Space exploration is incredibly important to mankind.
