Taronga has established a new conservation partnership with Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF). SCF are working with partners in the United Arab Emirates on the release of critically endangered Addax and Scimitar-horned Oryx into Niger and Chad. Both species have been impacted by illegal hunting, habitat loss and competition with domestic livestock.
@tarongawesternplainszoo holds large breeding herds of both species and are collaborating with the Conservation Centres for Species Survival (C2S2) in the US on genetic testing and exploring the potential for the Australasian population to play a contributing role in the future of the global recovery program. 📸: Mandy Turner.
