Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz | Barchan dunes start their journey from shoreline to desert near Paracas, Peru. This would be an easy picture with a drone, but not so twenty years ago, as I spiraled over the waves with one hand on my paraglider and leaned out with my camera. Barchans are caused by very strong winds. They are beautiful to photograph, but make for sketchy take-off and landings. To view more of our world from above, follow @geosteinmetz.
