“She has probably no equal among modern British painters as a colourist of the most exquisite refinement’ – P.G. Konody, reviewing Winifred Nicholson’s 1927 Beaux Arts exhibition.

Celebrated for her floral still-life compositions, Nicholson travelled to Ceylon, India and Burma in 1919-20 – a trip that sparked a lifelong fascinating with light and colour. These two beautifully delicate paintings, dating circa 1927-8, will come into bloom in our ‘Made in Britain’ auction on 10 September.
