In its first year the clinic treated 3,296 patients. By 1855 demand was so great a third floor was added to the building, the addition is indicated by the slight change in brick color. The clinic continued to thrive but by the 1960’s services had been reduced to just outpatient dental care. Succumbing to financial pressures, the clinic closed in 1989 and was then purchased in 1990 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York. Their intention of transforming it into a nursing home for AIDS patient was never realized due to local opposition. In 1998 the building was sold to a reclusive local investor who often mothballed buildings.
