After brushing past Puerto Rico, the storm began intensifying over open waters. On Aug. 29, forecasters noted: “Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday, and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through the weekend.” Seen here is a composite image of the strengthening storm from the GOES-16 satellite.
