Summer's twilight is upon us 🌅 Hudson River School painter John Frederick Kensett normally left the dramatic spectacles of sunrises, sunsets, dawns, and twilights to colleagues such as Frederic Church and Sanford Gifford.
But in the #summer of 1872, when he painted exclusively from and around the Long Island Sound, he explored light and color more liberally than he had before, his attention confined daily to the uninflected contours of the water and coastal topography, conjuring warm works such as this. Have a safe and enjoyable #LaborDay weekend!
