Do you know how long your child is required to stay in a booster or car seat for your state? Swipe left to find out! Despite the differing laws you should always keep your child in a car seat or booster for as long as possible until the vehicle belt fits properly! Let us know if you were suprised by any of the state requirements!
Most children are too small for just the vehicle seat belt. By raising the child up, booster seats help keep the seat belt positioned on the correct parts of your child's body. For proper seat belt positioning the shoulder belt should lie flat across the shoulder and chest, not crossing the neck or face, and the lap belt must lie securely across the upper thighs, not the stomach. Always carefully follow the manufacturers instructions for routing the vehicle belt to ensure proper use and protection! .

Until they pass the five step test in all 50 states. Physics doesn’t care where you are. My nearly ten year old uses a booster everywhere (two out of three happen to be @nuna_usa Aace backless boosters). Even when traveling there’s one in the overhead for our destination. Because no matter where we are, she’s not ready to be booster free. That’s true globally. Physics doesn’t care what measly man made laws say. The laws of physics trumps all and they’re far less forgiving than a ticket. They can take your child as payment.

@nuna_usa I love your products! This graphic is a little misleading though because even though the law says they need to be restrained until a certain age, it’s safest for them to be in the a booster for far longer than the graphic implies. You are such a great company with a phenomenal reach and can make a huge difference in the perception of your customers to keep them safer!! With great power comes great responsibility! @nuna_usa it would be great to emphasize here that there is a big difference between legal and safe. We have 50 different state laws about boosters yet kids don't change as you cross state lines - and almost no state laws match up with what we know - which is that kids need a booster until they pass the 5 step test - and only half of kids pass at 10 years of age. I especially liked how the Cybex manuals for example stated that rear-facing as long as possible is the absolute safest mode of transportation. I think having that written in the manual somewhere would help really encourage parents to rear-face as long as possible. It is the safest for babies and children especially because their bones are really soft.

Actually a child should stay in a booster as long as needed. Size of the child rather than age is the determination. Refer to safekids.com The state regulations come with weight and height measurements as well. Most parents take their child out of booster too early based on age alone. - thoughts of a pediatric trauma surgeon

Hi @nuna_usa , is it possible to edit the post to clarify that state law doesn't necessarily represent what's safest for every child? Many children will need to use a booster well beyond their state's age requirement before they can properly position a seat belt without a booster. Thanks, Amelia Hensley, CPST
