I get disturbed by my own addiction to social media. These apps are created to be as addictive as possible. They work like casino slot machines. This is worrying to me. 2. Instagram used to be fun. But for me it’s now 100% work. The pictures that get the most likes/attention are ones of my face. I don’t like that. I feel like it’s made this whole experience stressful, it makes me over think what to post if I’m really trying to communicate something, like what I’m working on, when I’m playing shows. If i want to get a message across, no matter what that message is, it’s always most useful to post a picture of myself. I don’t like what that conveys. I think it plays on vanity & insecurities. I think this app mostly tries to tell us to Look pretty. Look like you’re having fun. Be perfect. I get mad when I’m in a public space like the tube or the airport & there’s something as basic as a long queue & I can see everyone around me taking pictures & videos having no consideration for everyone they’re taking a picture of & then posting it or sending it to someone. The worst part is how it’s ingrained in me to want to do the same & that compulsion makes me uneasy. I don’t like the mindlessness, the zombie participation that makes me feel like I’ve been conditioned. 4. There’s research out there that says this dopamine hit we get has effected our sex lives & anxiety levels, that these apps make us less able to concentrate & more easily distracted. 5. Fear that my career is over if I don’t post. That’s too much. Need to get over it. Stop mind controlling me fAcebook! 6. It’s giving babies an altered sense of self. Wtf. I will post if I need to or get my management to post for me! I hope you will try this to! I’m gonna reflect on my own relationship with social media & make it healthier. I’m going to attempt Scroll Free September! An initiative introduced by the Royal Society for Public Heath.
Reasons I want to do this
