Read by millions but savaged by critics, the author Malcolm Gladwell elicits the kind of polarized reactions usually reserved for radio-talk hosts. To one camp, he is a master storyteller. To the other, he dresses up ordinary truths as counterintuitive genius. Now, the reactions to his new book “Talking to Strangers” — which looks at the challenge of figuring out whom we should trust and whom we shouldn’t — could cement the author in one of those camps for good. In “Talking to Strangers,” Malcolm explores grim topics like police misconduct, campus rape and other bleak terrain, all through the prism of our instinct to trust that the people we meet are telling us the truth. Our reporter Amy Chozick spoke with Malcolm as he unveils his new book. Visit the link in our bio to read more. @lovebryan took this photo.
