I asked if I could send him some Birdhouse gear and he told me flatly “no, I live on the streets.” So I sporadically sent stuff to @dorinbambus - a local photographer who knew where to find him - never really knowing if he received it or was able to use it. Our lives have crossed a few times since then, and there is a powerful documentary (“I Am Thalente”) about his journey from being homeless since the age of 8 to becoming a semi-pro skater with a style revered by some of the best in the business. Things are not easy for Thalente but he works hard and keeps skating regardless of his challenges.
