Wat Tham Suea is a famous religious site in Krabi, Thailand, most notably for its location atop a hill, which visitors must climb 1,237 steps of stone stairs to reach. At the hilltop is where visitors can pray to a giant Buddha statue and enjoy a panoramic view of Krabi. Legend has it that a cave around the foot of the hill used to be a tiger's lair, but the beast was eventually gone after a monk on a pilgrimage took a stop around the area, and the locals, out of faith in the monk and the Buddha, built a temple on the hill, hence the name "Wat Tham Suea" or Tiger Cave Temple.
