The Alicia skirt is made of over 16 yards of fabric, in fact it is very heavy. The fabric is hand-woven and hand-dyed in villages in Burkina Faso and it’s pieced together with recycled cotton. The shirt is hand-batiked in Ghana. The patchwork is reminiscent of “freedom quilts” with various symbols including the triangular “flying geese”’shape as well the “cross-roads” shape... All messages left by our ancestors to help us on our path to freedom. It’s a message of hope and unity. We want to thank everyone that made it possible.
