I FINALY got a bartending job at the Empire Diner, 4 blocks away, 1-2 shifts a week, 4pm to 4am. An incredibly cool hangout for the current IT crowd. I made a lot of terrific friends and loved the energy and my customers. Next door was rock star Ric Ocasek and his soon to be second wife Paulina, the supermodel. They became friends and were customers every day. Wasn't odd for rock stars and supermodels to be there, but they stuck out for their kindness to me and their "normalcy". The whole moment is a time capsule. Nights at Area, Limelight, Palladium, Pyramid. Chelsea was starting to gentrify, AIDS was ravaging the staff and neighborhood, and I wanted to tell stories in film and TV more than anything.
