Today we introduce #MioraRajaonary @miorarajaonary, who is one of the artists on display selected by an internationally acclaimed jury; here’s a sneak peek at Miora’s work, ‘Lamba’. About the project - "LAMBA" is an ongoing photography project intended to show how the "lamba", this Malagasy garment, serves as a symbol of the island's cultural heritage, pride and tool of empowerment for Malagasy people. Although Western clothing has taken over Malagasy people's clothing for daily use among the young generations, the lamba remains cherished by our grandparents, and worn by all on special occasions. It still accompanies most Malagasy at each important step of their lives. This project takes form as a portrait series inspired by the traditional of African studio portraiture, and shot with a medium-format film camera. This is my tribute to my people and my country, and is deeply inspired by the tradition of African portraiture.
