Happy Halloween, from the archives. The Yde Girl was uncovered on May 12, 1897, #Dutch peat diggers from Stijfveen bog near the village of Yde in the #Netherlands discovered a preserved body with fire red hair, the peat cutters were convinced that they had "seen the devil."
The #YDEGirl was incredibly well-preserved when uncovered, the body was turned over to the authorities nine days later.
She was strangled with a noose that wrapped around her neck three times, she wore a woolen cape suggesting she had been executed.
A CT scan suggests that she was about 16 at the time of her death and that she suffered from scoliosis. The scan also revealed a stab wound near her collarbone. The subsequent CT scan placed her age at about 16 at the time of her death. #Carbon-14 dating suggests she may have died in the first century CE (common era). #bogBodies #Bog #peatbog
