The @pittsburghclo was honoring her with an award and they selected four students at @cmudrama to come sing for her and I was lucky enough to be picked to sing Unexpected Song. We were performing in a ballroom surrounded by tables and as we were getting ready for our little show, Ms. Peters approached us and started saying lovely, encouraging things (because that’s just who she is). When I heard her ask one of the performers what role they were playing, I PANICKED - I didn’t know the name of the character she played in Song & Dance 😱 so... instead of risking her asking me the same question, I ran! Literally ran out of the ballroom to escape death-by-embarrassment! After the performance I ran into her in the bathroom (of all places!) and she was gracious enough to accept my long fan letter I’d spent hours writing the night before and take this picture with me. Years later when @neilmeron told me she would be playing my Mom on #Smash I just about died. Working with her was one of the greatest experiences of my life - her grace, kindness and generosity knows no bounds. She is a singular, remarkable talent matched only by the beauty of her spirit. I was reminded of all of this on Monday as we honored her with the 1st ever Craig Zadan Theatre for Life Award where I got to sing for her again - this time you bet your bottom dollar I knew the name of the role I was playing! 🤣Congratulations, Bernadette!!!
