Did this debris shield spark joy?
Sometimes you need to let go of what no longer serves you!
On the first spacewalk to repair the International Space Station's cosmic particle detector, @AstroDrewMorgan and @europeanspaceagency astronaut Luca Parmitano removed a debris shield to access the work site. It was too big to take inside, so the best option was to jettison it behind @国際宇宙ステーション, where it will disintegrate in the upper atmosphere. This video was taken on Nov. 15.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the two astronauts will once again venture into the vacuum of space to resume repair work on the particle detector, called the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer. Watch live coverage starting at 5:30am ET on nasa.gov/live.
