National Geographic Travelさんのインスタグラム写真 - (National Geographic TravelInstagram)「Photo by Cristina Mittermeier @Mitty | To free dive next to a pod of sperm whales sleeping with their melons pointed toward the sky is to feel as though you've passed into another world. They look like stone pillars suspended in space, surrounded by a blue that seems to never end. Paul Nicklen and I spent hours drifting with them as they slept. Every few minutes, one would peel off and rise to the surface for a breath, only to return to its vertical position with the rest of the pod. This experience changed my life and makes me want to fight even harder to protect whales and all wildlife. Scientists believe these whales communicate with one another over great distances and that they might even be able to "touch" each other with sound. When you're in the water with them, the energy from their clicks is so powerful you can feel it reverberate inside your rib cage!
