This year is our second year doing #nothanks, I wanted to share with you what I have learned so far. The biggest thing that stands out to me is how embarrassed & ashamed I am that @ndn.o’s spends weeks getting ready & making art to educate us on the trauma & genocide that we brought to their community. It’s impossible to communicate how fully fucked-up things are in a weeks worth of posts. The burden of communicating the truth behind this day should not fall on those who have been subjected to it’s historical and generational trauma. This stuff is intentionally kept out of public school text books. One of the worst parts about #nothanks are the deniers who try to minimize the struggles & blatant discrimination of Indigenous folks. I have no tolerance for that.
