As a sustainable business, waste is always a huge internal topic. The competitive push for record breaking sales that only continues to grow each year feeding the consumer driven waste over this holiday weekend is something companies should take responsibility for. Corporate consciousness is what is missing from the equation. But that said, so many of our customers have voiced that they want to support some of their favorite sustainable companies but have been waiting for a sale to be able to participate in a way that makes sense for their budget. So again, we were left torn. What we feel is most important today, beyond sales percentages and pushing product, is sharing how to shop responsibly. Purchasing products that you will keep for a lifetime is one great way to take advantage of this holiday weekend in a conscious way. Supporting local brands, ethical and sustainable companies that aren’t able to give year round sales at this time, is another wonderful way to contribute back to those companies like Bayou during Black Friday. An energetic exchange between purchasing a piece you will love and cherish, while supporting companies who are working their asses off to build a better future. That’s our version of Black Friday. This year we chose to be a part of this, for our customers who have asked. Next year that may change, depending on how this feels. For now, we are trying.
