Designed by Marcel Coard for celebrated Parisian couturier Jacques Doucet, this extraordinary Cubist Armchair circa 1920 is one of the last pieces that the designer realized for Doucet remaining in private hands. The piece builds tension through the juxtaposition of rosewood and vellum, and the addition of mother-of-pearl inlay to the arms. Originally upholstered in an embroidered fabric based on a drawing by Gustave Miklos, the work is the only known example of a collaboration between the two designers, and displays the strong influence of Doucet and his love for Cubism.
