It's #InternationalTeaDay so we're spilling some! 🍵👀
Here, Mary Cassatt portrayed her mother's cousin, Mary Dickinson Riddle, in a painting that was intended to be a thank-you gift for the hospitality Cassatt received on a trip to London.
However, upon presentation, the Riddle family found the work disconcerting and unattractive, and did *not* accept it. 🙅 🙅♂️
As a result, Cassatt kept the painting for more than 30 years before eventually donating it to #TheMet in 1923.
