They feature hinoki (cypress) bark roofs and kirizuma-zukuri (gabled) roofs made in the tsumairi style. The space inside the halls is divided into naijin (inner sanctuary) and gejin (outer sanctuary), with columns painted in ninuri (vermillion lacquer) and walls in gofunnuri (a coating of white pigment made from the crushed seashells of oysters and other shellfish).
