As some of Darcy’s friends start having phones, it’s natural that she wants one too. I’m happy for DarcyDoodles to use phones for calling or texting (as long as it’s not strangers and I can check the communications are positive and respectful both ends) but I’m just not ready for all the big things (stranger danger, website access etc) that come with a full on phone. It’s fair to say I’m overly cautious with things like this but I think a lot of us are, right? . With all this in mind, I recently started working with Sky Mobile who, in my opinion, have the perfect product for us right now called SPACETALK. It’s a watch for Darcy linked to an app on MY phone that allows her to call, message, check the weather, use a step counter, torch, GPS tracking and just yanno, tell the time! 💫 . What I LOVE about it is that I set the contacts she has in there (and can remove), I can set it to school mode (I decide which features work during school hours), I can set the message options (so I can actually supply a list of options to text like, ‘Craft club is cancelled’, or, ‘Love you Mummy!’), the phone element is all speaker phone so there can be no secret whispered calls and it has no access to websites. I feel safe with this. 💖 . I hope this will give Darcy the increased freedom she wants and give her a really good, safer introduction to communicative tech. I also think she’ll just feel cool having a gadget on her ⌚️ . I honestly think this would make the perfect Christmas gift from a close family member like a Gma & Gdad who often struggle with what to buy (I’ve had some absolute gems from my Gma haha) and you can find it via Sky Mobile online and pay £10 per month or from Dixons and pay £100 upfront and use a Sky Mobile SIM. .
