San Francisco officials have recently voted to ban private cars on a 2.2-mile stretch of Market. Starting in 2020, the street will undergo a redesign to make public transit more efficient and the thoroughfare safer and more appealing for pedestrians and cyclists. This is part of a worldwide urban trend of cutting back vehicular traffic on busy downtown streets.
